Aeromarine is now offering all-aluminum 750 straight floats.

The floats weigh only 30 lbs. each and are perfect for Part 103 ultralights. Available in finished or in a quick build kit.

A little bit of History

Aeromarine, meaning basically me, have a long history with seaplanes. I obtained my seaplane rating in a 1941 J3 Piper Cub on straight EDO floats in 1991. But by then I already had a few hundred hours flying floatplanes. Back up to around 1981 when I installed floats to the Tomcat ultralight and figured out how to fly a canard 2-axis floatplane. There is a video of it on my YouTube channel. Back when I had more hair and less sense.

Later, I moved on to the Zenair Zipper with a soft, folding wing based on the Princeton Sailwing principle.

This was a twin-engine, 2-seat ultralight, back before there was Part 103. I took a lot of bold friends flying with that little plane and it was a blast. And, with a 2-minute wing fold, I could slide it onto a boat lift for easy parking. NOTE: Keep that in mind when the TrueLite becomes available on floats!

Shortly after I arrived to the landlocked Czech Republic to manufacture the Zenair line of aircraft I obtained the rights and technology from Chris Heintz to manufacture his line of floats. Over the years I built sizes ranging from 550, 750, 1100, 1200, 1450,1650, and 1950.Most of these floats were amphibious and were sold all over the world for a variety of aircraft.

Next Came Seaplane Races in Italy

For a few years, I competed in the Picolla Schnieder Cup seaplane races in Italy. These races replicated the famous Schnieder Cup races from the 1930s and were a blast. I retired after winning 3 times. The races were similar to the pylon races adapted years later by Red Bull. Every year I build a new race plane. I had some big adventures just flying to the races getting over the Alps and navigating through the European bureaucracy!

The first amphibious LSA aircraft: Mermaid

And, for a while I owned a Lake Buccaneer amphibious flying boat. That was a blast flying around Lake Como buzzing George Clooney’s villa.

Plus, I designed and built the first amphibious LSA aircraft.

Introducing a couple new ultralight aircraft.

In my opinion, flying seaplanes is just about the best flying there is. And flying ultralight seaplanes is a great way to really have some flying fun. So, of course, I will be offering the 750 floats already for the Merlin Lite and soon for the TrueLite.

For now, we will offer the 750 straight floats in both kit and finished form. We do manufacture a 1450 amphibious float but are not currently promoting that size due to limited capacity.

Aeromarine has taken float production to the next level just as we have done with the Merlin and the Merlin Lite. Now the floats too are manufactured with PRECISION MATCHED-HOLE TECHNOLOGY. Those following the Merlin know that this means that the punched rivet holes in the float skin perfectly match the punched rivet holes in the float ribs. They are so precision that they are punched to the final rivet hole size and more often than not do not even need to be chased with a drill. The rivets just drop right into place. It is truly amazing technology and really speeds up assembly and reduces the skills required so low that even I could assemble them.
